Glenmore-I celebrated Canada Day with a clean sweep against Cavaliers I
Under sunny skies, Cavaliers I skipper Andrew Irving backed his team to chase and put the opposition in to bat. Backing his opening bowlers paid early dividends as Glenmore were quickly left teetering at 11-2. Some responsible batting from Parveen Saroye (38 – 2 4s 1 6) and Sukhjeet Gill (18) brought Glenmore back into the match however a Hassan Tariq double strike to remove Saroye and Trevor Defreitas (0) again handed the advantage back to Cavaliers I. Muhammed Pasha (2 4s 1 6) strode to the crease and added cautious and sensible 81 runs with Gurdeep Kang (36 - 2 4s 2 6s). to take the score to 169. With the loss of Kang, the skipper took more initiative pushing the score to 202 before departing for 43. A very determined captain’s innings to keep his side in the game. Ritesh Sharma and Hassan Tariq each picked up 3 wickets keeping Glenmore batting in check.
Cavaliers were looking very confident with their batting line up and considered the target can be easily achieved but Muhammed Pasha’s magical day continued with the ball. Bowling 10 on the trot, Cavaliers lost their top 6 batsmen before reaching total of 50 thanks to the skippers 5 wickets haul (10-0-31-5). The 7th wicket partnership for Cavaliers brought them back into the game when Grant Broadhurst (82) and Zahid Chaudhary (35) added over 120 until Chaudhary holed out to Saroyje at deep mid wicket. Cavaliers needed some 30 runs with 3 wickets in hand and with Broadhurst still at the crease. Glenmore’s bowlers quickly seized the opportunity with Waseem Altaf and Gurdeep Kang picking up quick wickets to peg Cavaliers back at 20 runs short of the target with a sole wicket in hand. Broadhurst (82) trying to take second found himself short of the crease as Glenmore completed the clean sweep of Cavaliers.
This was a very exciting game which was played in true spirit. With this win Glenmore gets number 5 spot on the point table keeping them ahead of Cavaliers and Predators.

Another "LAST BALL" finish
G Ahuja - May 27th, 2009
Glenmore T-20 played yet another nail bitting finish beating Star-11 by scoring run off last ball of the game. Glenmore bowlers did a great job restricting Star-11 batsmen including Kang who is well known for his big hitting to a score of 105 in 20 overs.
The chase did not started well as Glenmore lost few wickets early on with a score of 40 at the end of 10 overs. Innings got a momentum with couple of lusty blows from Waseem and Ram before they got out. With 3 to get from last 2 balls, Ahmed was joined by Nadeem who was determined to finish this off. With good running between the wickets they manage to run 2 of 5th ball to level the score. Last ball was then hit over the mid off for winning run by Nadeem to finish off in style.
Glenmore-I Bucks the Trend
Jonathan Bray - May 18th, 2009

Word is that for the last few years the team finding itself promoted to Premier League has struggled to win any games at all let alone its first outing. Glenmore-I ended that trend on Sunday with a hard fought victory over Cavaliers-I.
Cavs won the toss at Riley Large and chose to bat under overcast skies, the clouds didn’t hang around for long however and any additional movement that Glenmore was hoping for didn’t eventuate. The Cavs openers got off to a watchful start and were beginning to look solid until a quick single opportunity left Irving just short of his crease and at the wrong end of a fantastic direct hit from covers by the youngest of the three Paracha brothers playing in this game. Kang picked up the second wicket of Chaudhary thanks to a fast flying thick edge that was snatched one handed at fly slip by W Altaf. Another run out, this time a mix up between opener Gajjar and Paracha which found them both at the same end with Gajjar the one without a crease brought a wobble to the Cavs innings.
They needed a partnership badly and the Paracha brothers weathered some excellent bowling from Kang and Mirza who was extremely unlucky to have 2 catches missed in the same over. Once the partnership reached 50 it looked like Cavs might completely get away from Glenmore until Nadeem Altaf one of the two Altaf Brothers playing for Glenmore was thrown the ball. Altaf managed to produce a probing spell of tight bowling and break the Paracha team while at the other end Waseem Altaf came on to bowl in tandem with his brother. It proved very successful for Glenmore with the pair picking up 5 wickets between them (Nadeem 3/25 from 10 and Waseem 2/32 from 9). The big wicket of Talal Paracha who holed out to mid-on for Cavs highest score of 44 started a batting collapse that threatened to end the innings shy of 150. A lower order rally of over 40 between Paul (floating) and Sharma meant that not only did Cavs bat out their 50 overs but they also posted a challenging target of 176.
Cavs put on some early pressure and again it was in the field that the first wicket came with the run out of Gupta who was unfortunately using a runner. Another 2 wickets and not many runs found Glenmore in a spot of bother at 3/23. It was a blow to Cavs that their opening bowler Chaudhary had to leave the field with an injury as he was bowling extremely tightly with only 4 runs coming from his 4 over’s. Glenmore desperately needed a partnership and found it as W. Altaf and Parveen Saroye batted extremely well taking the total to almost 100 before Altaf edged one to slip finally succumbing for 19 to some great bowling by Broadhurst who proved to be the pick of Cavs bowlers with the fantastic figures of 3/32 from his 10 over’s.
At this stage the game was still in the balance but as long as Saroye continued to stay at the crease it seemed that Glenmore would get home. The problem for Saroye was finding a partner as Glenmore lost 2 quick wickets with Gajjar finding some extra bounce to surprise H. Paracha and take a great catch at first slip to dismiss Kale. Mirza and Saroye kept the target ticking down and just when it seemed a foregone conclusion Saroye holed out to a great catch right on the boundary by Paul off the bowling of Gajjar who finished with the very good figures of 2/35 from his 9 over’s. Saroye’s innings of 75 was just what Glenmore needed and was the most outstanding contribution in the game from either team.
With runs still needed and only 3 wickets in hand the pressure was really applied as Cavs could sense another breakthrough could bring a quick end to the Glenmore innings. Mirza and captain Pasha batted with great composure especially young Mirza who was playing the innings of his life picking off the occasional boundary including a massive 6 into the still dry Riley park wading pool. Broadhurst again caused problems removing Pasha and bringing Cavs within 2 wickets of victory. Only 2 runs per over were needed at this stage and Cavs desperately needed wickets. They almost had one as Kang was dropped on the third juggle at backward square which proved to be the pivotal moment in the dying minutes of the game. Mirza negotiated the winning runs and was carried off the field with 37 not out.
Glenmore are on the board with 6 points after their first game in a Premier Division that they have long worked hard to be a part of. All those in the Glenmore club will certainly be hoping that their Premier team can continue to buck the trend and continue to give the established Premier teams a run for their money.
