Glenmore slumped to a disappointing 7 wicket defeat in their season opener at Westwinds.
Without captain and opener Jon Bray due to illness, vice-president Bobby Gajendra led the troops. He got off to a good start by winning the toss and electing to bat first. Sadly, that was as good as it got for Glenmore as they produced an abject batting display. Anand looked to be positive at the top of the order but was eventually out caught for 14. The middle order all got to double figures but no one was able to go on and produce a substantial contribution. Some ill advised shot selections put Glenmore in deep trouble and it was only thanks to some robust striking from Martin Muyomba (15) which got the score to three figures. Spin twins Saad and Mustafa were the chief destroyers, the former bowling an emaculate spell of 9.3-1-11-3.

CHCC opener Neal made a match winning 64 not out to take his side to a comprehensive victory. The Glenmore bowlers all performed well however, with Rich Harvey showing great skill with his off spin. Unfortunately for the Englishman, luck wasn't on his side, with LBWs turned down, catches put down and a stumping missed off his bowling.

Congratulations should be made to Rich and aussie allrounder Ryan Jenkinson on making their Glenmore debuts. They are sure to be excellent additions to the club.

Lessons must be learnt from this defeat. We cannot afford to bat this badly again this season. Greater discipline and concentration will be required in future matches.
